The migrant caravan seeking asylum in the United States seems to have refused both asylum and work permits offered by the Mexican government.
Arizona Central reported that many of the migrants have passed on an offer to live and work legally in the Mexican state of Chiapas or Oaxaca. Pueblo Sin Fronteras is a spokesperson for the caravan and claimed the the offer made by Mexican officials violated their “human rights.”
“This plan does not truly respond to the causes of the Central American exodus, and therefore does not solve their needs from a perspective that respects human rights in a holistic way,” Fronteras said. “We don’t want any more prison cities where migrant people are confined without freedom of movement.”
Do you think they should have turned down this offer, especially when they know they will be unwelcome at the border?
