After Don Lemon announced on CNN that he can’t “see Democrats killing people”, Steve Scalise made his disbelief known with a single emoji.
The comment came from Lemon as he discussed “whataboutism” and Trump’s response during the following days of the Pittsburgh synagogue tragedy.
“This is not equal. The right-wing group killed a woman in Charlottesville,” Lemon said. “This guy is a right-winger who killed the people in the synagogue. The right-winger sent bombs to CNN and to Democrats. I don’t see Democrats killing people because of political — yeah, maybe democratic operatives who are out there.”
However a guest pointed out that there have been attempts, like the Congressional baseball practice shooter from 2017.
“Okay, they tried to, and that’s not right,” Lemon admitted.
Steve Scalise, who almost died from injuries sustained by the shooter, responded by tweeting a single “watching eyes” emoji.
Scalise has repeatedly used his unfortunate encounter to denounce violence from either side.
“These attempted attacks that have been made are beyond criminal, they are acts of pure terror. Violence and terror have no place in our politics or anywhere else in our society,” Scalise tweeted after bomb packages were sent to Democrats and CNN.
“Those responsible for these evil acts of terror must be hunted down and brought to justice, and I have great confidence that our law enforcement officers will succeed in that mission,” he continued. “As a nation, we must agree that this is a dangerous path and it cannot become the new normal.”
