Progressive groups in the U.S. are planning to stage hundreds of protests, to demand that President Trump not interfere with the ongoing investigation of Russian meddling in his 2016 election.
Protests are being led by activist group MoveOn and herald the banner “Nobody is Above the Law”.
The move has been motivated by Trump replacing the resigning Attorney General Jeff Sessions with Session’s chief of staff, Matthew Whitaker. Whitaker has already been a vocal critic of the investigation.
“Donald Trump has installed a crony to oversee the special counsel’s Trump-Russia investigation,” MoveOn posted to its website. It pledged that at least one rally would be held in each state.
It is believed that Sessions resignation is largely tied to recusing himself from the Russia investigation.
