A 23-year-old Florida woman told the story that a police officer had raped her, a story which quickly unraveled.
Marley Barberian was arrested on the suspicion of shoplifting from a local Target.
However once she was booked, Barberian alleged that the Palm Beach Country sheriff’s deputy groped her while patting her down. If that wasn’t enough she then went on to say that before she was delivered to the jail, the officer pulled over and raped her.
Barberian made a sworn statement that after being apprehended at Target, the officer took her to the Greenacres Police Department to pick up paperwork. When he pulled over to fill out said paperwork, he put a gun in her mouth and raped her. So she says.
But as investigators look into the case they are finding several inaccuracies with Barberian’s statement.
For starters, it didn’t take long to confirm that the officer who initially patted Barberian down at Target, was a female officer.
Next, the in-car surveillance video was reviewed for the officer who transported Barberian. It does show the vehicle coming to the Greenacres Police Department, but only to drop the suspect off not pick up papers. What’s more is the video also shows on stops between Target and the Greenacres Police Department.
Currently Barberian has been charged with perjury, false report of sexual battery, and false report of crime.
