Jim Acosta won another supporter when Fox News announced they would be siding with him and CNN in a lawsuit filed against President Trump and the White House.
The uproar began when Acosta and Trump butted heads in a press conference where Acosta persistently questioned Trump to the point of being called a “very rude person” by the president.
Following the incident WH Press Secretary Sarah Sanders stated that Acosta’s press hard pass would be revoked, initially citing physical aggressiveness toward the intern that tried to take Acosta’s microphone.
This however, did not go over well. As many cried afoul that the video released by the White House was doctored to unfavorably feature Acosta.
To counter, CNN filed a lawsuit against the White House for being in violation of “CNN and Acosta’s First Amendment rights of freedom of the press.”
While Fox has frequently been criticized for catering to Trump, Fox News President Jay Wallace released a statement backing CNN which read:
“FOX News supports CNN in its legal effort to regain its White House reporter’s press credential. We intend to file an amicus brief with the U.S. District Court. Secret Service passes for working White House journalists should never be weaponized. While we don’t condone the growing antagonistic tone by both the President and the press at recent media avails, we do support a free press, access and open exchanges for the American people.”
