The Trump administration is under fire yet again for the handling of illegal immigrants attempting to rush the border. But where was the furor when it was done under Obama?
Over the weekend illegal immigrants tried to storm the border in Tijuana. In response Border Patrol deployed tear gas to stem the tide of the mob. This has advocates of the left up in arms, a stark contrast to when Border Patrol used pepper spray in similar circumstances during Obama’s presidency.
The chief patrol agent of the San Diego Border Patrol painted the picture for CNN of the event. Migrants who a “vast majority” of were “adult males” attempted to violently enter the U.S., throwing rocks and bottles in the process.
Which is strikingly similar to an event five years ago. Again, a band of migrants tried to illegally cross the border near San Ysidro. Tensions grew to levels where the migrants where throwing items at border agents, which the agents responded with pepper spray.
The similarities between these events is lost on left leaning celebrities though as the hate flowed freely.
“You tear-gassed women and children, asswipe! And on Thanksgiving weekend, you piece of s**t, a**hole, motherf***ing, evil-creature-person!!” Alyssa Milano barked on Twitter.
Frequent Trump critic George Takei also tweeted, “Folks are acting as though we had no choice but to use tear gas at our border. But we have known about this group approaching for weeks. We could have had buses and agents ready to process people in an orderly and humane way. Instead, Trump closed the border and gassed them.”
If that wasn’t enough, freshly elected Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez compared the incident to the Holocaust.
Yet those familiar with what goes on at the border noticed the hypocrisy. Twitter was rife with supporters of legal immigration chiming in how it wasn’t long ago that President Obama was making the same calls.
