After President Trump held a meeting with top Democrats, Senator Ted Cruz is lauding Trump’s vigor.
With the press in attendance, President Trump recently spoke with Minority Leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer over final appropriation bills which also covered plans for Trump’s border wall.
It was quite a heated conversation with the president threatening to shut the government down if w funding for the wall is not secured.
While Schumer publicly spoke of the president’s actions as a “temper tantrum,” Ted Cruz is seeing things differently.
Cruz noted that what he witnessed was the president fighting for a secure border, exactly what Trump promised to do on the campaign trail.
“The American people have, for a long time, been frustrated with Washington, frustrated with too many elected officials who don’t follow through on their promises. They want us to do what we said we would do. You know, I watched that whole exchange with the president, Chuck Schumer, and Nancy Pelosi and I think the president was terrific, that he was standing up and saying, ‘We’re going to keep our promise. We’re going to secure our border. We’re going to build a wall,” Cruz said.
Cruz was also appreciative of how Trump held the discussion publicly.
“One of the surest indications of how unhappy the Democrats were in that exchange is over and over again, Nancy Pelosi says, ‘Can we turn the TV cameras off? We’re not supposed to be doing this publically.’ You can tell they’re on the losing end of the argument when she’s scared that cameras are showing that her and the Democrats are for open borders and the president is fighting to do what the American people want,” Cruz said.
Cruz then admitted he did not want a government shutdown, but that Democrats were acting as “obstructionists” and that construction of the wall was the “the right thing to do.”
