Recently released data shows that death among police officers rose nearly 12% in 2018.
144 federal, state and local officers have died in 2018 according to The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. A jump from the 129 who lost their lives in 2017.
The leading causes of death for law enforcement were shooting and car crashes, although heart attacks, drownings, cancer and other illnesses were also included in the report.
The report gave additional related statistics including that eight officers were killed participating in investigative activity, six killed responding to domestic disturbances, two killed serving warrants, as well as two deaths while handling or transporting prisoners.
Hopefully 2019 will be a safer year for those who pledge their lives to protect us.
