President Donald Trump is coming down hard on the California governor that is trying to keep $3.5 billion in federal funding after canceling the project to which the money was designated.
Governor Gavin Newsom cancelled California’s ambitious high-speed rail project after labeling it as too costly. The rail was originally planned to link San Francisco to Los Angeles, but now will only connect Bakersfield and Merced.
“I know that some critics will say this is a ‘train to nowhere,’ Newsom said before commenting that he was “not interested in sending $3.5 billion in federal funding that was allocated to this project back to Donald Trump.”
Newsom looks to be in for a world of hurt. President Trump immediately called for the money to be returned.

Newsom actually had the audacity to tweet his refusal to return the money, mocking the president as he did so.

This is a gross abuse of Newsom’s position and sets an even worse precedent. Something President Trump can’t allow to stand.
