The internet is flooding with the news that one of the most iconic churches, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, has caught fire and massive segments are burning down.
The historic Catholic church initially began construction in 1163 and was considered complete in 1260 although numerous improvements continued to be made.
This maintenance continues even today as 16 bronze statues were removed form the cathedral’s roof to be restored.
Unfortunately, many firefighters believe that this project led to the symbolic church to catch fire in a wild and destructive blaze.
Multiple outlets have shared video of the tragedy.
The only fortunate news to come from event is that currently no one has been injured. This is especially significant given that this is a Holy Week for Catholics and churches like Notre Dame are regularly overflowing with visitors.
